Our Chapter Story

Sisterhood • Scholarship • Service to All Mankind

From a shared vision in 1995 to a chartered chapter in 1998, the story of Upsilon Upsilon Omega is a story of sisterhood, service, and a commitment to the communities we call home.

Where Our Story Began

A Journey Worth Remembering

1995

The Beginning

On May 28, 1995, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® gathered for an interest meeting and fellowship tea at the former Ashbury United Methodist Church in Canton, Mississippi. Soror Kimberly Dowe presided over the meeting, which was held to determine the feasibility of establishing a graduate chapter in the Canton area.

After thoughtful discussion, the members present agreed to move forward with the goal of forming a chapter. The interest group was named the Tri County Pearls, and over the next three years, the group conducted service projects in and around Canton.
